The abrasion-resistant of the professional industrial and mining conveyor belt is the ability of vulcanized rubber to abrasion material as surface abrasion while resisting force of friction, which is a mechanical property that is closely related to the service life of the industrial rubber conveyor belt, it is related to not only the use conditions, surface state of the friction and the structure of the product, but also other mechanical properties and physical-chemical properties such as viscoelastic property, there are many influencing factors for it, which is more complex than the metal abrasion.
There are three types of abrasion for conveyor belt including wear abrasion, fatigue abrasion, and reeling abrasion, all of which are related to the main mechanical property of vulcanized rubber, therefore, in formulation design, it is necessary to gain the comprehensive balance for all properties.
1.Effect of rubber types:
in the universal diene rubber, its molecular chain presents a good flexibility, high elasticity, and the abrasion-resistant increases with molecular mass, when the abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber raises to 100℃ in temperature, it decreases rapidly; polyester (EP)conveyor belt presents the best abrasion resistant in all conveyor belts and shows an outstanding abrasive resistant under normal temperature, but in high temperature, its abrasive resistant decreases rapidly;
2.Effect of vulcanization system:
there is an optimum value for the abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber with the increase of crosslinking density, which depends on not only vulcanization system but also dosage and structure of carbon black, this issues can be explained with the concept of optimum rigidity of abrasion-resistant when the dosage and structure of carbon black is increased, the rigidity provided by carbon black will increase. To keep the optimum value of rigidity of vulcanized rubber, it is necessary to reduce the rigidity provided by vulcanization system, that is, reduce the cross-linking density properly, on the contrary, improve the cross-linking density of vulcanized rubber, the test shows that the more the content of single sulfur bond is, the better the abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber is.
3.Effect of the mixed system:
generally, the abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber decreases with the particle size of carbon black, and then increases with the increase of surface activity and dispersibility. The vulcanized rubber mixed with carbon black in the nylon conveyor belt, its abrasion-resistant increases by double comparing with the abrasive resistant with equivalent carbon black filled, there are multiple views on the effect of the structure of carbon black on abrasion resistant of vulcanized rubber, which shall be further studied.
There is also an optimum value for the dosage of carbon black and abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber, generally, the optimum volume of carbon black used as belt cover rubber with high abrasiveness increases with the increase of rigor level of service conditions, the new technology carbon black and white carbon black processed with silane coupling agent can improve the abrasion-resistant of vulcanized rubber of high-strength heat-resisting conveyor belt.
