A cobertura superior \u00e9 selecionada para a vida \u00fatil de desgaste (abras\u00e3o, sulcos; ambiente de temperatura) com base nas propriedades da rocha, no design da calha que define o impacto e o corte, e na temperatura do produto. Se o material exigido pela correia transportadora n\u00e3o necessitar de forte resist\u00eancia \u00e0 abras\u00e3o ou de boa resist\u00eancia \u00e0 tra\u00e7\u00e3o, pode escolher uma espessura relativamente mais fina, o que n\u00e3o s\u00f3 economiza o custo da correia transportadora, como tamb\u00e9m reduz o consumo de energia da linha de transporte e melhora a efici\u00eancia de transporte da linha. Por exemplo, na fase prim\u00e1ria de transporte de uma mina ou campo de britagem de rochas, como a rocha \u00e9 dura e pesada, \u00e9 f\u00e1cil riscar a superf\u00edcie da correia transportadora, pelo que deve escolher uma cobertura superior com pelo menos 8 mm de espessura. Al\u00e9m disso, depende do ambiente de utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o da correia transportadora.
