L&rsquo;environnement de travail des mines de charbon est relativement complexe, les poussi\u00e8res de charbon et le grisou sont des facteurs dangereux, et le charbon transport\u00e9 est \u00e9galement une substance inflammable ; si des \u00e9tincelles \u00e9lectriques sont g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es pendant le transport, il est facile de provoquer des incendies. La source de la flamme est ensuite retir\u00e9e et le temps de combustion (dur\u00e9e de la flamme) de l&rsquo;\u00e9prouvette est enregistr\u00e9. Un courant d&rsquo;air est ensuite appliqu\u00e9 \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9prouvette pendant un temps sp\u00e9cifi\u00e9 apr\u00e8s le retrait de la flamme ; la flamme ne doit pas se rallumer. Le temps n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9chantillon de bande pour s&rsquo;auto-\u00e9teindre apr\u00e8s le retrait de la source d&rsquo;inflammation (flamme) est ensuite mesur\u00e9. Les normes d&rsquo;essai exigent qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;y ait aucune preuve de flamme ou de lueur pendant ou apr\u00e8s le test.
